About Becky Shaw...
Becky Shaw has always been the kid who wants to try everything—and she's spent her entire adult life making good on that promise.
The Decatur, Georgia-based singer-songwriter didn't just pick up one or two instruments and call it a day. Over the years, she's mastered guitar, drums, flute, harmonica, lap steel, accordion, piano, and whatever else caught her attention. A couple of years ago, she decided to tackle jazz standards with her friend Allen Broyles. For the past 25 years, she's been one of the frontpeople for Susi French Connection, a 70s disco cover band that's as much a party as it is a performance. And for over a decade, she's been a specialist in antique lamp and lighting restoration—because why not?
But it's Shaw's solo singer-songwriter work that reveals the full depth of her artistry. Her songs are informed by folk, old country, Americana, rock and roll, and even classical music, but they're never derivative—Shaw has a voice that's entirely her own. She writes about connection, belonging, love, and loss with the kind of honesty that makes strangers feel like confidants, and a writing style that reflects her gifts as both poet and wordsmith. Her singing has been described as "hypnotically beautiful, present in every word she delivers, her voice emanating strength one moment and fragility the next." (Offbeat Magazine)
Music has been Shaw's constant companion since childhood, growing up in a musical family where singing and playing were part of everyday life. After moving from Seattle to Atlanta in 1990, she threw herself into writing songs and playing in bands, becoming a fixture in the city's creative community. She's played drums for Sonia Tetlow, wrote and performed with Roxie Watson and Reversing Hour, and currently performs with Americana trio Just Roxie.
Her resume reads like a who's who of roots music: shared stages with the Indigo Girls, Suzy Bogguss, Caroline Herring, Michelle Malone, and Shawn Mullins. Performances at The Bluebird Café, Eddie's Attic, CBGB's, The Pier in Seattle, and the Classic Center Theatre in Athens. But Shaw's real passion is for the intimacy of house concerts and small listening rooms, where the fourth wall disappears and music becomes a shared experience.
“Be The Song,” Shaw says when asked about her performance philosophy. It's a simple mantra, but one she's spent decades trying to embody more fully with each show. That commitment to presence and authenticity is what makes a Becky Shaw performance unforgettable—she's not just singing songs, she's living them with you.

shut down, jump in
"Though Shaw has been an Atlanta indie rock staple for 25 years, 'SHUT DOWN, JUMP IN' is her first solo album. As they say, it takes a lifetime to write your first album. In this case, it was worth the wait"
